Storage and moving go hand in hand. Every time I have moved, I needed to store things at some point during the process. My parents continually rented one of those storage rooms in a big warehouse when I was growing up, which came in very handy when I was in college and needed to store random items every semester. I would come home for summer or winter break and, inevitably, put more stuff in there. I do not remember, however, ever bringing things back to college from the storage unit. When I went to graduate school across the country, I actually had my movers stop there to pick up what I thought was going to be a lot of valuable things. I ended up leaving most everything in there and included them in a big yard sale the next time I visited my parents. I am sure those guys were happy I made them schlep all the way there for a little storage and moving adventure. I was young; what did I know?
When my husband (then boyfriend) and I first decided to move in together, we had another storage and moving voyage. Given that my apartment was the typical size of a city studio apartment and he just came from a spacious house on a campus in the Midwest, he decided he would put most everything he owned in storage.
