Storage Pods Are Moving Up

Posted by admin on Jun 21, 2009

Storage pods have been around for a number of years but recently the common population has started using them more. Since we as Americans are always on the move and it is rather challenging with day to day life to make a huge move more and more people have been using storage pods. What is a storage pod you say? Even though there are a number of companies that have pods the concept is the same. You order a pod and they will come and drop it off at your house. Normally after it gets dropped off you have approximately 30 days to pack up everything into it you would like. The companies offer storage space in their building if you can not have it dropped off in front of your new home immediately.

One huge upside to using any sort of storage pod is that it is cheaper than having to get a moving truck and it’s also a lot more convenient as you don not have to coordinate a huge move in a short amount of time. Most storage pod companies will just charge you a flat rate in the neighborhood of $200 rather than charge you per day. Also when choosing to drop it off at your new house they don not charge too much extra. Depending on the customers situation the cost can be anyway from $500 to $2500 depending on how many and how long they need. Pods are not used just for people that are looking to move. Pods have several uses besides just moving. There are several projects that people use pods for include interior and exterior projects and temporary storage. For the best rate try calling around to different companies that offer the pods you can usually find one that is cheaper then most or compare the prices to them and they will sometimes offer you a cheaper price then their competitors.

Several moving companies do not take extra care of your personal stuff as you would like. This causes for you to sometimes find your glass and other fragile stuff to end up broken. Unfortunately most of the moving companies will not reimburse you and just say it was because of the way it was packed. With the use of storage pods you can be sure that you protect your items since you are doing the work yourself. By using a storage pod it also makes it easier on you and your items as they are placed directly on the ground. Trying a pod may turn out to be a great choice and you may use it several times in the future.

When the pods arrive at your new home, you empty them, then call for pickup, and the company takes them away. That’s all. Often you don’t even need to be present when the pods arrive or are picked up.

Although pods are excellent any time you are moving house, they are exceptionally well suited to moves in which you will not be moving into your new home immediately. For instance, if you sell your previous house before you close on a new house, you may need to stay in a hotel or a temporary rental for a month or two while you wait to be able to move into your new house.

Any advice given by family and friends is usually trusted advice. They may have prior experience with a good self storage provider. Your friends can also tell you which self storage companies to avoid if they have had a bad experience.

You can check out the classified ads too if your friends have never used a self storage company. Local papers and circulars usually have self storage ads.
